In celebration of Earth Day, one of our clients, GM, worked in conjunction with Ultium Cells to plant trees at an Ultium Cells project sites in Spring Hill, Tennessee. This is the third annual event and it began as an initiative to replant trees that were cleared during the construction process. HazTek Safety Professional Dennis Holt was an active participant for the event this year, along with Bob Smith, (GM Site Supervisor), Alonso DeAvila (GM Senior Project Managers for Cell Pants, and Andrew Roy (GM Project Manager for Cell Plants).

The tree planting started on April 8 with the delivery of the larger mature trees. Over the next two weeks, these trees were planted with the help of volunteers and crews from the various sponsors of the celebration. The celebration ended on April 22 with the plant hosting the Middle Tennessee Boys and Girls Club to plant smaller trees on the property. The Earth Day celebration included ice cream, t-shirts, and ballcaps given to all volunteers.

345 trees were planted in total during this two-week period. In addition to the 345 trees planted on the Ultium Cells site, 250 trees were provided to the GM assembly plant for them to plant on the GM property. The trees consisted of ones that are native to the area, including Sugar Maples, Persimmon, Black Gum, Tulip Popular, White Oak, Birch, Green Giants, Hetzi Juniper, and Magnolias. All trees were provided by Tim George Nursery, in Morrison Tennessee.

HazTek also donated to purchase some of the trees that were planted for this event. At HazTek, one our core values is to serve and support the local communities where we work and we’re so happy we were able to participate in this wonderful event. Fantastic job to all of the sponsors and volunteers!
